Sunday School Association

“

Sunday School is the most important and decisive section of a local church.

But most of the churches do not give that much consideration to sunday school. They think that it is something relatedto small childrenalone.

The motto of sunday-School is Proverbs 22:6.’Train a child in the way he Should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. (NIV)

This verse means that we should have a Clear vision about his youth days and old age period, and give him apt training according to it. We must be aware of the fact that he is going to be a youth, a professional, a husband, a father etc. We shouldhave a clear plan about his futuredays according to the word of God. Start to train him when he is still a child. We have to start the training in our home itself.

But the systematic and orderly studyof the word of God is not possiblein our houses. We have so many limitations for such study in our churches too. Here comes the role of Sunday School.

During the periodof industrial revelution in Europe, parentsstarted to go to factories and other work places. They had to spend almost all the day time in factories. The children were ignored in theirhomes and they became adicts to drugs and liquor.

An evangelist namedRobert Reiks was much concerned and disturbed about these children. He gathered some of them and began to tell Bible stories to these wandering Children in 1885. It was Gods plan and so, many people became part of this ministry.

Now, Sunday schoolis the largest evangelisation movementin the world. Almost all the christianchurches have Sunday school for their children. It is the most important duty of all the believers to teach their children the word of God. Otherwise the devil will lead them to total destruction. I want to mention here, some of the parents in the Bible who were very much concerned about the spiritual growth of their children, and some other parents who neglected them.

David says ‘My son solomon is young and inexperienced, and the houseto be built for the LORD should be of great magnificence…. Therefore I will make preperations for it” So David made extensive preperations before his death.(1.Cronicles 22:5)

As the result of this consideration his son Solomonbecame able to build the wonderful temple of God, which is a wonder in the sight of human beings.

The parents of baby Moses were very much aware of the coming days of Moses. He was going to live in the palace of Pharaohwithout the knowledge about livng God. So they gave him aptteaching about livingGod in their house its self. So, later he became able to lead the people of Israel to the promised Land.

But as for Hezekiah: when Isaiah told him that his descendants would be taken away to Babylon, he said ‘’The word of the Lord is good. Therewill be peace and security in my life time”. He was concernt about himself only.

Actually, this Hezekiah was a very piousperson. Once he prayed to God and God extended15 years to his life. But he was not concerned about next generation – his own children!

His son Manasseh, born to him after his irresponsible words, built a templefor Baal and sacrificed his own son to this god.

The Children of the parents, who were not eager to teach the word of God to theirchildren, had forsaken living God and followed Baal.

Areyou able to consider SundaySchool as importantas Sunday worship, fasting prayer, etc. Now a days many churches declare holiday to Sunday School for Lords supper, baptism Service, fasting prayer, marriage, Convention etc. It is a crime against young generation.

Children are Gods gift, not only the Children in our own house, but all the children in our churches. We are entrusted with the task of moulding them as Christ-like person. Sunday School plays the most important part in this task

May God help each of us to accomplish the task given by God through SundaySchool.
